10 Unique Must-See Cities In The World
I love traveling, and on my journeys I've visited around forty cities around the world, covering every continent. I feel pretty confident that my experiences have allowed me to enjoy the best and worst cities that the world has to offer, and I'd like to share my top destinations with you.
Each of the cities I'll be talking about are here for a reason – some for their unique culture, others for their fantastic cuisine, amazing views, and unique traditions. These are the places I consider a must-see for anyone who's passionate about traveling. They will open your eyes to a world that's very much unlike the one you're used to, and that will make the visit not only enjoyable, buy eye-opening and educational as well.
Located in the country of Oman, Muscat is filled with resorts, museums and a wide variety of cultural events all surrounded by water sports and luxurious accommodations. It has a fantastic shopping district and plenty of things to see and do that reflect the city’s unique cultural history. Take a step back in time while enjoying all of the modern amenities in Muscat.
Spain is a beautiful country and if you are looking for a taste of Old World charm, Cadiz is it. The city is well-known for its 10 day carnival and for 2012 it has been named the Ibero-American Capital of Culture. Make sure you check out the many squares in the city with all of their cafes.
Sweden is a country that many people overlook when it comes to vacations, but they are definitely missing out. Stockholm is considered a cosmopolitan city that is still very beautiful, photogenic and a touch out of the ordinary. You will find true bohemian bars and trendy shops here mingled with parks and gardens. It is a bit expensive, but it’s definitely worth it.
This city in Portugal has been recognized as part of the UNESCO World Heritage List. It has been titled the European Capital of Culture for 2012 and it is filled with castles, palaces, and many historical places to see. If you enjoy art, this is one place to go to see some of the up and coming new European artists as they showcase their masterpieces in the city.
The name of this Chilean city should sound familiar. It is here that 33 miners were trapped and where an 8.8 magnitude earthquake struck, putting the city on the proverbial map. The people of Santiago bounced back and the city is now the home of new museums and restaurants for you to enjoy. With a base in Santiago, you can hike the Andes or ski in July, making it a unique place to visit.
Considered the most liberated city in China, Hong Kong is hopping no matter what type of day it is. From shopping malls to walled villages and hiking trails that require you bring a camera, Hong Kong offers a lot to do in a little space. And, that’s before we mention the 11,000 restaurants the city boasts.
From some of the worlds most famous theme-parks, including Epcot center and the Magic Kingdom, to Natural parks and a huge selection of Museums, Orlando has it all. The city is filled with malls and shopping outlets to fulfill your every shopping desire, as well as several award-winning restaurants and fine dining destinations. While it still has a roughness to it from its days as a frontier city, Darwin, Australia is one of the coolest places to visit. From markets to eateries to indigenous art museums, Darwin offers plenty to do with a nice sandy beach to hang out on when you are done.
London is the home to Big Ben, Parliament, the Tower of London and some of the best museums and art galleries the world has to offer. Despite usually overcast weather, the city offers fantastic culture and cuisine, with special events (for those lucky enough to arrive at the right time) such as Pancake day, St. Patricks day and more, as well as Music concerts at the Earls court and The O2 where popular artists come to perform.
If you are looking for a city that appeals to your sportsmanship as well as your penchant for historical sites, London is the place to be.
Also known as Bangalore, this South Indian city is filled with ethnic cuisine and one of the best arts and music scenes in the world. There is a new high-speed metro system in the city that will get you around quickly and easily so that you can see and do everything!
